WEATHER BEAT: Memorial Day Weekend Likely to Be Hot, Summer-Like

Posted

weatherbeatlogoDespite being just days away from Memorial Day, the unofficial start to summer, we have yet to reach 80 degrees this May. We did see a couple 80-degree days back in April, but since then, we’ve seen unrelenting rain. With the exception of four days, it has rained all month!

Is there an end in sight? While I am still seeing chances for rain, this rain is from thunderstorms produced as a result of well-deserved sunshine mixed with some humidity creating a ripe environment for a thunderstorm. So yes, there is an end in sight, but it comes with a price.

Beginning on Tuesday, and lasting though the end of the month, I expect every day to feature highs of 80 degrees or better. This stretch coming after many days only in the 60s, and even a few days that failed to reach 60 degrees. It’s been an exceptional May.

While Memorial Day is still a week away, your holiday weekend forecast features plenty of sunshine Saturday and Sunday and just a slight chance for a thunderstorm on Memorial Day. Highs for the entire holiday weekend will be in the mid-80s with highs near 90 possible on Memorial Day.

My favorite thing to do is study the weather. It is truly fascinating. Nothing beats a good thunderstorm. I became very interested in weather when I lived in Okinawa, Japan for four years and was actually inside a super typhoon.
