Trained riders of all ages are eligible to participate

Silver Eagle Stable Annual Show Series will return this April with shows running one Saturday a month through November. Show dates are April 20, May 18, June 15, July 20, Aug. 17, Sept. 21, Oct. 19, and Nov. 26. The 4th annual show series is open to all area riders regardless of where they take riding lessons. Riders can participate in as many, or as few divisions and shows as they choose.

Silver Eagle Stable (SES), located at 11506 Parkgate Drive in Nokesville, is Northern Virginia’s premium stable and horse-riding facility. SES offers riding lessons, boarding, retreats, camps and trail riding, all on its wooded 90-acre historic campus.

The Silver Eagle Stable Show Series is designed for beginner, and intermediate riders, ages five through adult. It is a comfortable, low-stress environment for students to showcase their skills without apprehension. It is fun for riders and spectators alike, and it has grown every year!

This season, tentative divisions include Beginner Riding (walk only) for English and Western, Novice English (Walk/Trot), Novice Western (Walk/Jog), Advanced English (W/T/C), Advanced Western (W/J/L), Dressage, Mounted Games, Obstacles/Ranch Riding (either Western or English) and Lead Line.

It is $25 per division and $25 per horse rental. The Judges are impartial, and riders can win ribbons at every show. Participants celebrate with a big party at the end of the show season, and finalists can win valuable prizes such as new saddles, boots, belt buckles, and hats.

Thomas Russell, owner of Silver Eagle Stable, proposed the show series to provide SES students with the opportunity to gain self-assurance in their riding. Instead of holding a private show, he decided to create a “relaxed” competition series to benefit the riding community.

“We wanted to enrich the lesson experience of our students, build confidence and make it fun!” Russel said.

SES manager Chris Noakes said students love the show series, and it motivates them throughout their lessons. “It also gives the students goals; it’s something to look forward to.”

Russell believes horseback riding is a wonderful sport for young people because it teaches them responsibility, discipline, poise, skill, drive and sportsmanship. SES offers multiple opportunities for beginner riders.

Virginia has always had a rich equine tradition and it has eroded dramatically over the last 25 years. At one time, there were horse ranches all over Northern Virginia; now, they are few and far between. Silver Eagle Stable wants to preserve that rich riding tradition in Northern Virginia as well as enhance the quality of life of its residences.

Interest in riding? There is always something happening at SES!

SES is currently registering children for its Spring Break Camp from Mar. 25-29. They will be hosting camps in the summer, and they offer children’s introductory, intermediate, and advanced group lessons throughout the year, plus adult lessons.
