Thousands of Northern Virginians attended Virginia Gateway's Christmas Firework Spectacular Saturday evening.

The event is an opportunity for parents and children to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus while visiting the outdoor shopping and dining center.

Along with meeting the Christmas couple, local residents and visits enjoyed taking a ride on horse-drawn carriage, meeting elves and other Christmas characters, hearing live music, participating in contests and eating good food.

Then, for the finale, guests were treated to a fireworks display.

While visiting the Virginia Gateway Center, guests availed themselves of several dining opportunities and shopped at local stores.

The event is always a favorite for local residents, and helps the economy by bringing in plenty of shoppers and diners. Every year, Virginia Gateway seems to extend its reach, and events like these, can bring in new customers who may return to shop, dine or play in Gainesville.
