Massive Police Presence near University Blvd Due to False Report

Prince William Police confirm it was a 'swatting' incident

Posted

According to Prince William Police Sgt. Jonathan Perok, the massive police presence on the residential street of Stretford Forest Court, Bristow, Tuesday, Aug. 19, was the result of a "swatting incident," meaning a false call to emergency services.

Readers alerted Bristow Beat of the incident occurring in a Linton Hall-area neighborhood around 4:30 p.m. Soon after, a reader reported to Bristow Beat that police presence could be seen from the roundabout on University Blvd in Sheffield Manor.

The photo, submitted by a motorist, shows approximately a dozen police vehicles parked on Stretford Forest Court. Some officers had guns drawn and were wearing protective vests.

However, at 4:34 p.m., Prince William Police reported the incident is of no danger to the community.

"We confirmed nothing had happened at the home," Perok said in an email to Bristow Beat.

We have not received any further details at this time.
