Mark your calendars for an inspiring celebration as we announce and crown the 2026–2028 Poet Laureate. Join the Prince William County Poet Laureate Circle as we honor the power of poetry, creativity and the literary voices that enrich our community.
One local esteemed poet has been selected to serve as Prince William County's newest poet laureate for the next two years.
Saturday, that person will commit to serving their community - not only through reading their poetry at ceremonial events - but also by creating new opportunities for the community to engage with poetry and the spoken word.
Saturday's event will include poetry readings by several former laureates and current nominees, all of whom will be reciting original pieces.
Following the crowning, attendees are invited to meet, mix and mingle with the new poet laureate, poet laureates emeritus, nominees, organizers, dignitaries, artists and supporters of the arts. Refreshments will be served.
Join the community to celebrate the program proposed by the late June Forte and carried forward by Cathy Hailey and Alice Mergel, both longtime educators, poets and art advocates.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the nine talented applicants. We appreciate the time, passion, and artistry each applicant has shared throughout the selection process. - The Poet Laureate Circle
