Youth for Tomorrow, the Bristow-based non-profit, is asking for donations of nonperishable food and money to help provide Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners to local families.

“If you ever wanted to ‘do something’ but don’t know how to help- here is your chance. As they say, ‘hunger has a cure.’ It is easy. Let’s feed the kids,” said a YFT spokesperson.

Last year Youth for Tomorrow provided Thanksgiving Dinners for 100 area families, but this year, nearly 750 families have requested help from the Bristow nonprofit. For that reason, YFT is reaching out for help.

YFT already held a food drive in which they collected 750 boxes full of nonperishable Thanksgiving food. However, they are still in need of more food as well as money to purchase more turkeys.

Food drive organizer Laura Cotterman explained that the need is great this year.

"Through our work in the local community, we serve many families in need. These are families in Prince William and Fauquier counties. Our goal is to deliver food for a traditional holiday dinner and non-perishable groceries to fill their pantries We are committed to serving many more families this year. The need is great!" Cotterman said.

Even though food will be delivered on Monday and Tuesday, YFT is carrying over their food drive until Christmas, so nothing will be wasted.

Cotterman said families need food not only for holiday dinners but for everyday meals as well.

“The kids get meals while they are in school but over the break ...no meals,” Cotterman said.

In addition to collecting food, after Thanksgiving, YFT will begin its toy drive effort as well, so that all children can have Christmas or holiday gifts.
