Comedian and actor Robin Williams, 63, died Monday at his home in Tiburon, Calif., apparently "a suicide due to asphyxia,” the Marin County sheriff’s office said.

According to residents, Williams was more than an entertainer; he was a significant part of many of their lives. From his earliest appearance on "Happy Days" to his most recent TV show "The Crazy Ones," Williams has left a lasting impact.

Some residents shared their reflections of Williams:

Deron Blevins: He always seemed like one of the good guys, very sad to hear about. "Mork and Mindy" is where it all started for me. Na Nu Na Nu.

Terri Aufmuth Stevens: My Captain..not much else to say except, know that there are many people suffering in silence with addiction and depression. Both illnesses are" silent sufferers". We need more understanding, appreciation and treatment without discrimination and judgment. Rest in piece Robin Williams, your humor will be missed.

Karen Loud Andrews: I watched every one of his movies over and over because they were always that good! Depression sucks. It really is a battle.

Amy Everett: We have never, ever had a friend like him...

Emily Stinger LePore: My heart breaks at this news. Of course for the comedic gold that was Robin Williams, but also at the pain and torment this man must have endured. How bad must that have been to end your life. I wish that internal hell on no one. Watched him first on "Happy Days" where he would freak out The Fonz... then on Johnny Carson's "Tonight Show"...but I guess my favorite was...O Captain, My Captain. I ALWAYS WANTED TO STAND ON MY DESK IN SCHOOL AND DO THAT...but I was too CHICKEN. DPS

Vanessa Perez: He was my childhood.

Kelly Vorbau Owens: "Patch Adams" movie was my favorite. Amazing actor, so very sad!!!

Brenda Wolfe: "Dead Poets Society," "Good Morning Vietnam," "The Awakening," "Jack"...most of my favorite movies star Robin Williams. He was truly an amazing character and not one of those arrogant Hollywood types. I hope that, despite the pain his loved ones are now experiencing,he has peace.

Jennifer Meyers-Heeter: Such a shame that he brought so much laughter and joy to so many people but suffered so greatly with depression. He was and always will be one of the best.

Andrea Burrows: I remember watching "Mork and Mindy" with my dad, we would laugh and laugh. How sad. Rip
