The Prince William County School Board heard recommendations from two school naming committees about their choices for the new Haymarket Drive Elementary School and Nokesville K-8 School.
Associate Superintendent for Western Elementary Schools Jarcelynn Hart said that the Nokesville committee, which met Jan. 9 and 16, considered 24 names and chose to submit Haymarket Elementary School or Faxie Burke Jr. Elementary School, which would be named for the community activist.
The new elementary school, located at 15500 Learning Lane in Haymarket, is scheduled to open Sept. 2014.
Another naming committee convened Jan. 14 and 28 to decide on a name for the Nokesville K-8 School, which is under construction at 12375 Aden Road in Nokesville.
From a list of 38 names, the committee decided to recommend three: the Nokesville School, the Nokesville K-8, or Nokesville Countryside K-8.
The school is scheduled to open Sept. 2014.
