Bristow day care provider KinderCare Learning Center received a visit from the Virginia Department of Social Services for a routine inspection.

The licensed child day care center, KinderCare Learning Center, located at 12871 Braemar Village Plaza in Bristow was inspected on Nov. 6, 2012.
Virginia Department of Social Services Comments:
A monitoring inspection was conducted today with the Director and Assistant Director. One-hundred and three children were present with 13 staff providing direct supervision. Many of the children were eating lunch at the initial walkthrough which consisted of pasta, chicken, broccoli, peaches and milk. The Licensing Inspector was able to observe outside play, lunch and nap time. Several children had medications on site. The risk assessed for each violation was reviewed with the Director. Arrival time: 11:20 a.m. Departure time: 2:50 p.m.

Description: Based on a review of children's files, it was determined that one child's file did not have the signed statement by a physician certifying that the child was adequately immunized. This requirement went into affect on 7/1/11. Evidence: Child A enrolled on 9/7/11 and the updated immunizations were obtained in October and December 2011.
Action to be Taken: We will obtain from the parent.

Description: Based on observation by the Licensing Inspector (LI) and interviews with staff, it was determined that cribs in two classrooms were not identified for use by a specific child. Evidence: Four occupied cribs in the Toddler 1 classroom did not have the names of the infants/toddlers listed Three occupied cribs in the Infant room did not have the names of the infants listed.
Action to be Taken: We will make sure the names are on all cribs.
The Virginia Department of Social Services inspects all licensed child welfare agencies at least twice a year, with at least one unannounced inspection each year.
“In order to determine continued compliance with standards during the effective dates of the license, the department’s licensing representative will make announced and unannounced inspections of the facility or agency during the hours of its operation,” the agency states on their website. “The licensee is responsible for correcting any areas of noncompliance found during renewal or monitoring inspections.”
VDSS cautions that a compliance history is in no way a rating for a facility and online compliance reports do not include consideration that some information regarding “adverse actions” may be the subject of pending appeals.
According to the agency, “Through the administration of the licensing program, the Department of Social Services assumes responsibility to ensure that licensed facilities and agencies provide children and adults with at least a minimum level of care in accordance with regulations prescribed by the State Board of Social Services and Child Day-Care Council.”
