PWCS Superintendent Hints at Virtual Learning Days for Next Week

Weekend temperatures are unlikely to melt snow and ice

Following a week-long closure of Prince William County Schools, Superintendent of Schools Dr. LaTanya McDade announced that any additional closures next week would necessitate the implementation of temporary online virtual learning for students across the county.

“While we are planning for a full return to in-person learning on Monday, February 2, please note that temperatures over the weekend are expected to be well below freezing and will cause poor walking conditions to persist,” she said in a message to the school community Friday. “Any additional loss of instructional time may necessitate the implementation of a virtual teacher workday and/or the use of virtual learning for students next week,” McDade said.

Prince William County Public Schools established a “Code Orange” designation in recent years in cases where the weather creates unsafe travel conditions for consecutive days.

In such cases as the school division operates on Code Orange day, school buildings and office buildings are closed, and virtual instruction (synchronous or asynchronous) and services are delivered remotely from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Additional information about Code Orange can be found at https://www.pwcs.edu/about_us/closings/codes/index

“We will continue to monitor weather-related conditions and additional information regarding the plan for reopening on Monday, February 2, will be shared with staff and families over the weekend,” she said.
