UPDATE: Prince William Fire & Rescue Responds to Haymarket House Explosion

Prince William Fire and Rescue Units were dispatched to the 5900 block of Coby Hunt Court in Haymarket, Tuesday, Oct. 15,  at 4:17 p.m., for a reported outside gas leak.

At approximately 5:36 p.m. the unit on the scene messaged that the home had exploded.

The home had been evacuated earlier by the unit on the scene.

Initial reports are of an underground contractor striking a natural gas line. It is unknown at this time as to what led to the explosion.

No injuries have been reported. Units remained on the scene completing extinguishment and overhaul.

The gas company is on the scene to secure the leak. There is no further danger to the community. More details will be provided as they become available.

UPDATE

The single-family dwelling involved in this incident was totally destroyed.

Two unrelated families resided in the residence, which consisted of four adults and two children. No injuries were reported. The Red Cross responded to assist the families.

Many homes in the immediate vicinity were allowed to be reoccupied tonight after having their electrical service restored.  Eight homes in the immediate vicinity will have their natural gas service disrupted for up to two days. Several vehicles were also damaged by flying debris.
