Police Arrest Manassas Robbery Suspect Accused of Striking Employees with Hammer

Suspect was sought in connection to January 2022 robbery of Dollar & Gift

Richmond Police took a man into custody, Monday, who is accused of assaulting two employees of the Dollar and Gift Store with a hammer while robbing the Manassas store last year.

The arrested, Esteban Jesus Duran, was sought in connection to the Jan. 13, 2022 robbery of the Dollar and Gift store located at 7630 Streamwalk Lane in Manassas.

Jan. 13 2022 at 12:38 p.m., Prince William County officers responded to the Dollar and Gift to investigate a robbery. The investigation revealed that a man entered the store and eventually two employees, a 17-year-old female juvenile and a 25-year-old woman a the counter. The suspect then brandished a hammer and demanded money from the registers. He forced the two employees to walk to the office at the rear of the store to the owner’s office.

At that point, the two employees ran for the back door. The suspect followed, before striking the teenager with a hammer. The employees continued fleeing and the suspect went back into the store.

Once inside, the suspect went to the office where he attempted to strike the owner, a 44-year-old man, with the hammer. The owner was able to avoid being struck and attempted to run toward the back door.

At that point, the suspect pushed the owner, causing him to fall to the ground outside of the business. The suspect then went back to the office and grabbed a money bag before fleeing.

The owner initially chased the suspect who was eventually able to flee the area.

The owner and the employees went back into the store where they encountered officers. A police K-9 and helicopter assistance from Fairfax County police searched the area for the suspect who was not located.

The 17-year-old employee was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The owner reported minor injuries. An undisclosed amount of money was reported missing.

February 21, detectives with the Violent Crimes Bureau identified the suspect sought in connection to the robbery.

February 23, 2023, detectives obtained arrest warrants for the suspect, identified as Esteban Jesus Duran. Attempts to locate the suspect had been unsuccessful.

On May 15, Richmond Police arrested Esteban Jesus DURAN, 29, of 4791 Walden Cir., in Orlando, FL. He is charged with robbery, malicious wounding, and wounding during the commission of a felony

His court date is pending. He is currently incarcerated.
