PRTC Begins utilizing its new Manassas location

OmniRide Buses Roll Out from Manassas for 1st Time

PRTC Launches New Western Facility

WOODBRIDGE, VA – For the first time in its 35-year history, OmniRide dispatched buses from its new Western Bus Operations and Maintenance Facility, Monday, June 7.

The first OmniRide Express commuter bus left the Manassas bus yard at 3:50 a.m. to serve passengers on the Route 60-Manassas (Tyson's Corner) Metro Express route.

A total of 48 buses are now permanently assigned to OmniRide’s Western Facility near the intersection of the Route 234 Bypass and Balls Ford Road. Those buses will serve OmniRide Express and OmniRide Local routes in western Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park.

Until now, OmniRide buses have always been parked and dispatched from properties in eastern Prince William County. The OmniRide Transit Center in Woodbridge opened in November 1997 and will continue to serve as the hub for OmniRide activities in eastern Prince William County.

“Buses serving routes in the western part of our service area can now be dispatched from Manassas instead of Woodbridge. Anyone who’s driven between those two locations will understand that this change will help OmniRide save time and put fewer miles on its vehicles,” said Perrin Palistrant, OmniRide’s Director of Operations and Operations Planning.

Keolis, OmniRide’s contracted service provider, celebrated the start of service from the Western Facility with a variety of activities including grab-and-go meals for staff.

OmniRide’s Western Facility features a bus maintenance building, bus wash, fuel island, administrative offices and parking for 100 buses. The parking lot and maintenance bays were critical because the OmniRide Transit Center in Woodbridge is too small to accommodate the current fleet which totals 154 buses. The new facility was built with funding from the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, the Department of Rail and Public Transportation, the Federal Transit Administration and Prince William County.

Moving some of the fleet west also is smart for OmniRide’s future growth because the I-66 Express Lanes will open in 2023 and generate more demand for public transportation in the corridor.
