Prince William Fire & Rescue units were dispatched to the 12200 block of Colvin Lane in Nokesville for a reported house fire on Saturday, April 4,  at 10:10 a.m.

"Crews arrived on the scene with heavy fire showing from the rear of the structure, advancing quickly into the house and attic," said Matt Smolsky, assistant chief and fire marshal. "A rapid fire attack brought the fire under control."

Occupants had already exited the home before the arrival of fire and rescue units. No injuries were reported.

The structure sustained significant damage and was posted as "unsafe to occupy" by the Building Official.

The Red Cross is assisting the two adults and two children who were displaced by the fire.

The fire marshal’s office determined the fire was ignited when ashes from a smoker were improperly discarded in a combustible container near the rear deck.
