Police Arrest Manassas Teen Suspected of Shooting following Altercation

17-year-old received multiple charges. Second suspect remains at large

Prince William Police arrested a 17-year-old Manassas male on May 14. They believe him to be involved in an April 26 shooting at reportedly occurred at Coverstone Apartments, located at 10900 block of Coverstone Drive in Manassas.

On April 26 at 5:25 p.m., officers responded to the Coverstone Apartments located in the 10900 block of Coverstone Drive in Manassas to investigate a shots fired call.

The investigation revealed the victim, a 19-year-old man, was approached by two unknown men and a family member. During the encounter, one of the unknown men brandished a firearm towards the victim. A verbal altercation ensued before the parties separated.

A short time later, the victim observed the same suspects approaching him before multiple shots were fired. Two separate apartments were struck by gunfire.

No injuries or additional property damage were reported. 

On Tuesday, May 14, some Prince William officers were investigating an unrelated incident at Walmart on 8386 Sudley Road when the store’s security alerted them to two individuals, concealing merchandise.

When the officers attempted to make contact with the alleged shoplifters, they fled on foot. Officers caught up to one of the suspects, a 17-year-old, and detained him without incident.

Police determined the person they detained to be the juvenile detectives sought in connection to the shooting on Coverstone Drive on April 26.

Following the investigation, police arrested the suspect, identified as a 17-year-old male, of Manassas. Police are not revealing his identity as he is a minor. 

On May 14, the male juvenile suspect, 17, of Manassas, was charged with 2 counts of attempted malicious wounding, 2 counts of shooting into a residential dwelling, 2 counts of brandishing, 1 count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, 1 count of possession of a handgun by a minor, 1 count of obstruction of justice, and 1 count of petit larceny.

His court date is pending. He is being held at the Juvenile Detention Center.

The investigation continues as detectives attempt to identify the second individual involved in the shooting.

The other suspect is described as a Latino male approximately 5’7” with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a black hooded jacket and black jeans.
